Volunteer Position Overview

USGBC’s West North Central (WNC) Region 2020 Community Leadership Awards program honors individuals and organizations whose exemplary work has been influential in the expansion of sustainable, higher-performing buildings and projects throughout the region's local communities that includes: Central Plains, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri Gateway, Nebraska Flatwater, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.  WNC Leadership Award Jury volunteers make up a panel of USGBC Market Leadership Advisory Board members and green building experts from the greater USGBC Community.  These volunteers provide unbiased written review of the submitted nominations and participate in group calls at the start and finish of the judging process.

Responsibilities

  • Read assigned nominations

  • Use scorecard to assess each nomination

  • Attend scheduled online meetings

  • Provide a picture and short biography of yourself

  • Able to meet the time commitment during the judging timeframe (02/24 – 04/10)

Qualifications

  • Desired technical expertise in one or more rating systems, including but not limited to: LEED, SITES, TRUE, GRESB, etc.

  • LEED and green building project experience

  • Ability to assess and evaluate performance and project data

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Ability to join online meetings using WebEx and basic knowledge to use Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Preference for experience using Microsoft Teams for file sharing and collaboration.

 

Time Commitment

As a member of the WNC Award Jury, the volunteer is expected to attend kick off, jury wrap up and the debrief calls each lasting about 30-60 minutes.  Time commitment for the review of nominations will vary based on the number of submittals received, but we anticipate it may be approximately 8-10 hours between February 24, 2020 and April 10, 2020. 

 

Important Dates and Milestones

  • December: Launch of call for nomination period 

  • February 24:  Nominations close 

  • March 2: Jury kick off call and nomination review period begins

  • April 3: Jury scoresheets are due

  • April 6 or 7: Judging wrap up call via WebEx

  • April 10: Jury review complete, scores and ranking are finalized.

  • May 6: IMPACT Conference – Nominees noted at the live event.
